Shortly after the sinking of the ship the idea of trying to raise the ship started. It wasn’t until September of 1985 that the wreck of the Titanic was discovered in Newfoundland by the American-French expedition led by Jean-Louis Michel and Dr. Robert Ballard. The most fascinating discovery was that the ship did indeed split in half before sinking. Surrounding the ship are items from the voyage including furniture, dinnerware and personal items.
